Click on that and get a link here and we can test it out. You type the name of an application, select applications, do a search and now we can scroll here and see we can link to either the application directly or the developer. Suppose we want to link just to an application. If we want to do an even better test we can copy the link and paste it up above and what will happen now is it will launch iTunes, take you to the store, and jump right to that page, in this case it's the artist's page here listing all the albums. Now we can test this out by clicking on this test button here. It includes an image too as well and you can go ahead and paste that into your blog or you can just copy the actual link here if you're going to say send it to someone in an email. And when we click on it, it takes us to this page here where we can copy and paste a full link as if you are going to put it into your blog. We can link to the individual song by clicking on this little arrow here to the right of the song, we can select the album by clicking this arrow, or the group by clicking on this one. So we can select any one of these as a link. Now in this case we have the song names and album and an artist. When you hit search, you get a list of all the items it found. You can specify the media type or just leave it blank. So, for instance, let's search for some music. You can choose the country of the store that you want and then you can type in the search term. That redirects you to a more complex url here, and you get a form that you can fill out. So Apple has a tool for this, it's called the iTunes Link Maker and you can find it at /itunes/linkmaker. ![]() Well, you can create a link that, when the user clicks on it, it will launch iTunes and take him right to that item at the iTunes store. ![]() So say you find something you like at the iTunes store, and you want to recommend it to somebody, you want to put a link in an email, or on your blog. In today's episode, let's take a look at how to create a link to a song, video, or app at the iTunes store. Video Transcript: Hi, this is Gary with MacMost Now. Honestly, love or hate the people on this map, see who’s made the most waves – so we’d recommend checking it out for yourself. Highly influential people such as Ted Cruz in Alberta, Pamela Anderson in BC, and James Cameron in Ontario are displayed in larger text, while well-known yet, less documented celebrities like Chad Kroeger, Tim Horton and Taylor Kitsch are displayed in the smaller text along with their “notability rank” their gender and whether they’re currently alive. The map can be broken down into four categories – culture, discovery & science, leadership and sports with only one person (the highest ranked) named from each geographical location. ![]() Only in a society penetrated by contemporary European ideas of nationalism and tied together by modern communication and transportation technologies could the conceptualization of an “Indian ” political community emerge. The emergence of a national political discourse in the late 1800s came about against the wishes of the GoI, but on a stage prepared by it. ” Government was to be exercised through a collaborative elite responsible for the implementation of government policy in the locality. ![]() The GoI ’s mission was thus to preserve stability and control, largely through a strategy of “divide and rule. India was to be governed for the benefit of the British metropole as cheaply as possible. Consequently the Government of India (GoI) understood its role in an extremely conservative light. The revolt convinced the British that their efforts at reform of Indian society had been dangerously miscalculated. THE GOVERNMENT OF INDIA (1858 –1947)Ĭompany rule ended with the abolition of the East India Company in 1858 in the wake of the Indian rebellion, more commonly known as the Indian Mutiny. Throughout its reign, the debate as to whether the company ’s role was to transform Indian society or to preserve Indian tradition continued unabated. The EIC became the ultimate arbiter of what constituted tradition, and its codification turned previously fluid arrangements of social interaction into rigid systems of social classification. Yet this effort to preserve and participate in Indian “traditions ” fundamentally transformed them. The company made an extensive effort to codify indigenous law and practice. It continued to transact the business of government through local allies, according to local custom and in local languages. ![]() An English trading company driven by European ideas of economy as well as European norms and practices of political authority, the EIC was also a participant in the South Asian political universe, asserting its credentials as a successor state to the Mughal empire. The indirect exercise of control contributed to the hybridity of EIC governance. The company exercised power indirectly through local allies and rulers, setting a precedent followed up to 1947. Political instability following the disintegration of Mughal authority enabled the EIC to transform from a mere trading interest to a territorial ruler. By the mid-eighteenth century, competition with the French drew the British into the South Asian political scene through alliances with local powers. The company ’s participation in the lucrative spice trade led it to establish trading posts first at Surat on the Gujarati coast and later at Bombay, Madras, and Calcutta. The origins of British rule of South Asia lay in the founding of the English East India Company (EIC) in 1600. ![]() The period of the Raj covers two hundred years of South Asian history and is one of the most important episodes of colonialism in modern history. The latter included Bangladesh as East Pakistan, which gained independence in 1971. The British finally left the subcontinent in 1947, ceding independence to the new states of India and Pakistan on August 14/15. While the English East India Company (EIC) had been present in South Asia from the early seventeenth century, formal British rule began in 1757. The Raj, a Hindi word meaning “rule, ” is the epithet most closely associated with British rule of the Indian subcontinent. ![]() ![]() Andy’s toys are excited because this will be the first time in years they are played with. This is the first time the toys are introduced to this nursery where in just a few minutes kids will come and play with them. Andy’s toys left Andy’s house and found themselves here in Sunnyside Daycare. The next few images will express just how much control the Pixar artist have over the power of lighting and creating atmosphere for a scene. Here is the first of several images I will post of the Nursery, where most of the movie takes place. This looks like a place where toys belong. This green actually represents someone we will meet later on in the film. The bright more saturated green colors you see from the outside actually look much more inviting than anything we see inside. One other thing I want to point out in this image is the outside colors. And, the stars representing Andy’s childhood are almost completely covered by posters and other “grown up stuff”. The Buzz Lightyear poster is mostly covered up in the corner. Woody and the rest of the toys’ marginalization is seen in specific and broad strokes. The colors are less rich then the last frame and Woody doesn’t seem to belong as much. The moment takes place after Andy has grown up and is about to go to college. This is defiantly Andy’s room, reflected by the overwhelming amounts of blue in the image. Throughout the film you see Art Director Dice Tsutsumi save deep colors for solid emotional connections. We are at the height of Andy and Woody’s relationship reflected vividly through the deep saturated blues and oranges. The creators want to create a world here where you believe anything is possible (I mean COME ON!!! There is a huge FLYING PIG SHIP taking up a chunk of the screen!). There is a tremendous amount of open space. The shot here comes from a high stakes adventure taking place in Andy’s imagination. He also has blue jeans which connects him visually to Andy. This terrain is a natural fit for his character. Woody is a cowboy dressed in a warm color pallet. Andy has always been represented with blue in the Toy Story movies. Not only does this really make things stick out, it establishes Woody and his owner Andy’s relationship. As you can see there is a complementary color scheme at work here, blue and deep orange/brown. Most will recognize this shot from the intro of the film. As Dice said in an interview, “One of the things Ralph (the original Toy Story art director) said was to pick ten or fifteen key moments and see if you can describe the color flow of the movie with just those images”. So, though I will mostly reference Dice Tsutsumi and Kim White in this post the results you see are made possible by the countless artists making up the Toy Story 3 team. ![]() The tragedy, most of the artists go unnoticed. Animation is the ultimate collaborative medium. The director of photography for Toy Story 3 was Kim White and she and her team were responsible for bringing Dice’s paintings to life. The actual images you will see here comes from the final film. I believe Toy Story 3 is the best example I have ever seen of the emotional impact color and lighting has on a film. The color script is started towards the very beginning of pre-production and isn’t finished until lighting for the movie is finalized. Dice Tsutsumi said, “The color script sets the tone of the film: how color and atmosphere and lighting will carry the story and the characters throughout the film”. He was in charge of creating the color script for the movie, which consists of dozens of impressionistic paintings plotting out the general emotional arc of the movie through the use of color and lighting (check out part of his color script here). With Toy Story 3 the brilliant art director Dice Tsutsumi took the helms of this beloved franchise and gave us a pallet of colors unmatched in animation. The goal isn’t to be subtle with the colors, but rather use color to drive the emotional arc of the movie. Instead, each scene usually consists of one to three key colors to establish an atmosphere. The colors are usually extremely saturated and there are few scenes where you see the whole gambit of the color wheel. Toy Story has had a distinct pallet from the beginning. Let’s talk about the color pallet used to tell the story of Toy Story 3. From the refined Pixar storytelling skills to the huge advancements in technology Toy Story 3 was able to expand its universe while keeping a firm grasp on what made the first two films so loved by the first generation of Toy Story fans. Simply put, Pixar was running on all cylinders when they made this film. And, though you could make an argument Toy Story 3 is a little repetitive and less original then the first two movies, I think the film stands out as the most visually bold film of the trilogy. I personally think Toy Story 3 is a fantastic completion of a wonderful trilogy. ![]() Read on to find out how your hardware compares to what the devs recommend for the game. ![]() Though dating back to an Arcade Game running on the Sega Dreamcast-like NAOMI hardware, Super Monkey Ball was ironically Sega's first major franchise to debut after they left the console business, first landing on the Nintendo GameCube instead. ![]() It’s a shame that Banana Mania didn’t live up to the Super Monkey Ball experience in my memories, but times have changed maybe it’s time this series touched a strange black obelisk and evolved, too.Super Monkey Ball is a series of arcade-style platform games created by Sega's Amusement Vision division (now known as Ryu ga Gotoku Studio). The simplest tilt of the DualSense controller had stages careening to the left or right, sending my monkey balls flying. Playing on PS5, I even turned on motion controls to try to replicate the magic of the early Wii game Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz, but that was a complete disaster. More than once, I found myself wondering why I had liked these games so much when they first came out. Super Monkey Ball: Banana Mania is one of the few games to offer same-system multiplayer in a time when almost everything is online-only, making party mode easily its most redeeming quality.Īs a solo experience, however, Super Monkey Ball: Banana Mania falls flat. Party mode has a dozen mini-games, and most of them are genuinely fun and have surprising depth when played against other humans for example, the Mario Kart-esque Monkey Race game has 12 tracks and multiple gameplay modes, and Monkey Golf has regular and mini-golf variations. Looking back at my personal experience, the Super Monkey Ball games have always been at their best as party games, and that continues to be the case with Banana Mania. There’s also the option to skip a stage entirely, which is especially nice because it ensures that you’re never stuck on one frustrating level for too long – assuming that you don’t run out of the points you need to pay your way. ![]() I can’t tell you how many times I just blindly rolled forward as quickly as possible, hoping that it would get me closer to the end, because every other strategy ended in failure. It’s usually not a matter of understanding where the end goal is - getting there through trial and error or dumb luck is the problem. ![]() There’s a Helper mode that doubles the time limit and provides a visual path to the goal, which can be useful but usually doesn’t negate the bigger issues. It’s telling that the developers actually included a couple of ways to deal with particularly tough levels. Super Monkey Ball could’ve learned a thing or two from Peggle about dispensing serotonin. What’s especially draining is that after finishing a particularly difficult level, there’s no satisfying adrenaline rush that accompanies overcoming a challenge - just a sense of relief that it’s finally over. The more I played past a certain point, the more it felt like a chore. If only a few levels were designed like this it’d be easier to dismiss that feeling, but after the halfway point most of them start to feel this way.Īnd while the environments and backgrounds might be fun and colorful, much of the playable level design is repetitive and uninspired. When I finally managed to land in the right place and stay put, it didn’t feel like I’d mastered the obstacles of that particular level it felt like a lucky run that I wasn’t sure if I’d be able to replicate. Other attempts ended after I landed on one of the higher platforms and bounced right off again. The first time, I was thrown directly into a connecting pole and bounced off the map before I even had a chance to move. Because you can only tilt the camera up so far, I couldn’t see where the finish line was - instead, I had to roll onto a ground-level platform that thrust my ball upwards and try to figure it out in the air. That’s exactly what happened in one of the levels that made me want to pull my hair out: before me stood a towering theme park ride made up of platforms connected to a pole in the middle. Early levels might challenge you to make your way around a winding path or keep your momentum going long enough to clear a gap later on, you’ll be thrust into the air by spring-loaded platforms and fail the level before you even have a chance to adjust the camera to see a hazard you didn’t know would come at you from that direction. The difficulty in Story mode really ramps up around the halfway point, going from light and breezy to a frustrating exercise in failure very quickly. The problem with both the Story and Challenge modes is that, after 30 or 40 levels, they both begin to feel like a slog. ![]() Don't get mad or upset about accidents.Don't even call in an accident - adding that word to your child's vocabulary might make them have more "accidents" on purpose just so they can proudly exclaim "I had an accident!!" Instead, try saying "Let's go finish peeing in the potty!" or "Pee goes in the potty! Next time you'll do better and we'll make sure you go in the potty." And make sure to remind them: "Pee goes in the potty! Poop goes in the potty!" to reinforce that idea and end the accident on a positive note. We don't want our kids to think it's OK to have an accident. Don't say "it's OK" when your child has an accident. ![]() Using a cheap little toddler-safe (aka not glass) sand timer (such as this one) helped us explain to him that he has to sit and finish going to the potty before he runs off. Since our son is so energetic, he would sometimes sit for 5 seconds, pee or poop a tiny bit, then run off to play. This is the only little gimmick that worked for us.
